Tragedy or Comedy; Your Choice!

Journalism is a style of writing used to report news and current events.  The basics of good journalism come down to grabbing the readers’ attention,  being descriptive, and answering the “big” questions that everyone wants to know, the WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, WHY, AND HOW of an event.  For this week’s blog, I’d like you to describe either a tragic or comedic event you witnessed or heard about over the break using a journalistic style.  That means, you must answer the big questions above to tell your readers what happened.  You also have to write it in a way that will capture our attention; perhaps using a big headline or an interesting first line.  If I start a story with, “On Tuesday, the dog was barking…” my reaction would be, who cares?  However, if I start with, “The barking of the dog woke her from a sound sleep and interrupted her dreams of vacation” I think that might just be a bit more interesting to read so I’d continue on with it.

This blog should be no more than 400 words, but has to be at least 250.  It is due on Friday this week (the 2nd) by 3:00.  Please see me if you have questions.

  1. A tragic event that happened on Thanksgiving Day, while I was watching television at my aunt’s house with my cousins, waiting for all the food to get done, and I heard a big splatter so I went out to see what happened and the turkey had fallen off of the counter, due to my brothers fighting and Jon bumped it with his elbow making it fall of the counter!
This to me wasn’t tragic, it was devastating. When it first happened everybody was pretty mad because what’s thanksgiving without any turkey and we didn’t have time to cook another one, so we all strategized and thought of ways to sanitize it. We were all ready and excited to eat the turkey and then it had to fall of the counter.
Luckily we saved most of the turkey, because only half of it touched the ground and we just rinsed it off, and the put it back in the oven for about fifteen minutes to kill all of the bacteria that may have gotten on the turkey when it fell off of the table and cut off the pieces that had touched the ground, so thanksgiving was still a success, and the turkey tasted great. The turkey was actually the best turkey I had ever had in my entire life. Hopefully next year we plan it out a little better, and don’t let any of the boys in the kitchen or around the kitchen counter while the turkey and other sides are being cooked, so we don’t have this problem again.

  2. Here is Kaitlyn's story written in a journalistic style:

    Thanksgiving Devastation!

It was a Thanksgiving Day like many others in the Wingerter family, until tragedy struck! The smells of cooking were enticing to the television watchers as the feast was nearing completion. Suddenly, there was a big crash from the kitchen. The cousins looked at each other in alarm and dashed in to discover that the brothers, Jon and ___________, in their haste to obtain the drumstick, had inadvertently knocked the whole bird on the floor.

The family was appalled. This was a tragedy of the highest order. How is it possible to have a Thanksgiving Dinner without the main course? They felt like the Whos in Whoville after the Grinch made his midnight raid on their village. The Wingerter clan put their heads together, considering the problems confronting them.

First, the bird had to be rescued. Second, it had to be sanitized. Clear heads prevailed and the turkey was lifted from the floor, contaminated pieces were removed, the bird was rinsed and returned to the oven to kill any remaining bacteria, and the turkey, and the feast, were saved!

Thanksgiving was a success for the Wingerter family of Deposit, NY. Family members report that the turkey was the best ever; was it because of the “special seasonings” or merely because of their relief at saving it? We may never know for sure, but what we can be sure of is that this family will never again let the brothers Wingerter into the kitchen when the potential for a tragedy of this magnitude is again present.

  3. A very tragic thing happened over the thanksgiving break. The first think that happened was my four wheeler ran out of gas so I could not drive it until my mom or I went to the gas station and buy gas. Then the next day we went back we got more gas and the same thing happened and I was not too happy because I went about a month using the same gas. Then we went to Binghamton with my cousin’s pick up truck that had all of are scrap metal and we made around 275 dollars and then I got new wrestling shoes then I got more gas fort my four wheeler and went around my grandmothers field. I can’t wait until I can get my license and get my own truck so I can make some money. The best thing is that I did not get all of the heavy metal so then the next time I go up I will make a little bit more money. I need to barrow my cousin’s truck so I can get the rest of my scrap up to Binghamton so I can get the rest of my grandmother’s field cleared out so I can go riding more into the woods then the next thing that I did over break was I went through the woods and saw a 8 point and little 6 point and if it was hunting season at the time in Pa. Over break I made a tragic time into a fun time.

  4. a tragic event occurred may 29, 2011. there was an accident just out side of port crane, new york. there were four people in the car...and only one made it out alive. the car hydroplaned and hit the center divider and then proceeded to spin it hit the guide rail then flipped into the river. my aunt was taken away by the rivers current the two men that were in the car sacrificed their lives to try to save my aunts and cousins lives (my cousin being the driver). sadly the one person that didnt deserve to make it out, did, that was my cousin she had no right to get behind the wheel of a vehicle while drinking...and she did in a way that makes it even more tragic.
you never think that something as tragic as that could happen to you, nut obviously it can.

  5. The comic relief for the night:

Little Sally Johnson walked up to our mobile news team on the corner of fifty-sixth and Broadway. This little blonde haired blue eyed girl was crying about something, she was very hysterical about loosing her little green ball.

When I asked her who had taken it she said, “A reallllyyyy meannn boyyy”….., with brown hair and dark eyes who said that he wanted a ball, just not any ball her ball. What happened I asked Sally, but she said nothing else about this mysterious boy. Then I said where did it happen Sally and she told me that it was two blocks over form where we were now and the boy was too big for her to fight so she went to a news crew to get him in trouble.

At that I took Sally back to a police station to report that she had left her home without her mother or father. When they showed up at the station I asked them what they thought they were leaving their daughter to come and get a news crew for a little green ball. All of a sudden they burst “What green ball?” After that I told them about the mysterious boy who ‘took’ her green ball they stared down at their little daughter and she began to sputter and breath heavily like she was about to sneeze. All of a sudden she went to cup her hands and she let loose one of the loudest sneezes I had ever heard. She started to dance around and chant “I have a little green ball; I have a little green ball”

  6. I like comedy because I like things that are funny. I don’t really like things that are tragedies. I like to laugh to things that are funny. The reason I don’t like tragedies is because I have had many people die in my family that is why I don’t really like tragedies that much. I like anything like in Americans funniest home videos. That is what I think is funny. I laugh when people get hurt only like on Americans funniest home videos.
Its not that I think it’s funny when people get hurt it’s just to see the things that people do. I also like Jeff Dunham because the characters that he has are hilarious. I like peanut the best because he is just so funny. He is funny because he is actually saying the words and the puppets are just acting the words out.
I think anything that has people doing crazy things is funny. I was watching this you-tube clip where this biker got ran off the road by a gazelle. That was funny. Then there is another one that is funny where there is a deer that a guy misses three times. The first time he shoots he misses and the deer just stands there and he shoots again and misses and then the third shot he misses again and the deer finally runs off.
There are other you-tube clips that are so hilarious. There is a comedy that is funny; the name of the comedy is Bevis and Butthead.

  7. The funniest thing that happened over my break was in my back yard. My father, my sisters (Autumn, Dezziah, and Jenny), Autumns boyfriend Jonathan, and I were all hanging out at a fire. It was chilly out, and the smell of smoke engoulphed us all.

I was watching the flames of the fire lick at the surrounding blackness of the night. Autumn, Jon, Jenny, And Zack were all running around and dad was tending to the fire. Zach ran by me, followed by Dezziah and Autumn. Dad went inside and so did Jenny and zack. Jon started poking at the fire and it was almost out when my dad came out. When the fire was going very well again dad went inside.

Eventually it was just me out side with a fire as big as me. All of the sudden I hear something behind me, I turned around and then it was next to me. After I heard it beside me I thought I heard it in the trees. I started running to the house and slipped on the leaves, I slid and hit the ground. I got backup and when I got to the house I tripped up the stairs. I ended up smacking my knee really hard off the floor, when I went inside my dad said “Mook! Were you being chased or what, you flew down here.” I looked at him. “Actually, I slid.” I told him and went in my room. I looked out side and the fire was still going, but I thought I saw someone so I went back out and it was my dog.

  9. The week of thanksgiving was fun but it was tragic because my dad and his friends from PA went hunting and my dad didn’t get anything. My dad’s friend Mike got the first deer and then my dad’s other friend Bob asked my dad if he could shoot the one deer and my dad said of course why would you ask and he shot it, so my dad was the only one that didn’t get anything he has a bear tag and then this bear came near him well he was in the tree, but anyway he didn’t shoot it the first time the bear came he told it to shoo and then it kept coming back and then he was just about to shot it, but he didn’t because he thought it was to cute. So I had to suffer with out deer but other then that my thanksgiving break was the best seeing my family and my dad’s friends Mike and Bob and Mike’s wife, son and daughter.

  10. As Meghan Norton, David Jones, and I laid sprawled out on Meghan’s living room floor laughs began to fill the apartment as we gathered around the containers of Chinese. The containers had been scattered around the carpet, covering the floor. The time on the TV receiver had read 2:35, there was plenty of time still left in the night, and the laughs coming from the house had echoed through the night.

This had only been the beginning to our night. As the rest of the world laid in their beds sleeping, we had been wide awake, doing what most teenagers do, causing trouble. Even though, our bodies were telling us that we were tired. Our minds were keeping us awake. After watching a movie, playing truth or dare, and having a popcorn toss, all three of us decided to play with… an Ouija board.

Going against his better reasoning, David shut off the lights, and lit the candles. As we sat down to play the game we reached out afraid of what was going to happen next. As our fingers rest lightly on the curser, Meghan asked the first question. Before we could get a response the candle had shattered!

We darted into Meghan’s room and hid in the closet. After about fifteen minutes we realized there was nothing to be scared of. We went and picked up everything that was lying on the floor. However, to avoid being caught by Meghan’s mom, we had David sneak out through Meghan’s bedroom window.

Finally it was 5:56 am and Meghan and I were just crawling into bed when everyone would be waking up shortly. However, we forgot to clean up one thing.

When Meghan’s mom woke us up at 7:20 we knew something was wrong. We had forgotten to clean up the Chinese. Meghan’s mom began to ask us questions. Meghan’s mom asked us how we paid for the Chinese... we replied by saying with your credit card. There was a great silence and finally she said, “Well did you save any for me?”

The past weekend was great, I definitely cannot wait until Meghan, David, and I have another humorous night.

  11. I woke up on November nineteenth ready to go kill a deer. It was opening day. I have been out in the woods already to see where to put my stand. I saw many deer so I was almost positive that I was going to see a buck. Then I would shoot it and be the happiest person in the world.

After I woke up I went down stairs and ate a hearty breakfast. There was my dad, his friend, Paul, my brother and I. We were all excited about the first day of hunting. So after we ate my brother, dad and I went up to my grandmas when Paul went out at my house. There were also eight hunters at my grandmas that pay her to hunt on her property. We figured that at least half of us would get a deer. Once we got there we all went out to where we were hunting.

I was in my tree stand for about an hour when I heard something coming. So I pull my gun up to get ready to shoot and out walk a little squirrel. That was very disappointing. My dad, brother, and I texted each other every once in a while to let each other know if we saw anything. No one did. I sat in my stand until about noon and then went for a little walk. I had to go back to the house at two. This was because I had to go over to Bainbridge to get certified again. When I went over the previous day they wrote my weight down wrong so I had to go back. This sucked because I couldn’t eat for another day.

After I got back from Bainbridge I went back out hunting for sun down. I didn’t see anything that whole day. I was very disappointed. My brother or father didn’t get anything either. So we all went to bed and were ready to go out the next day. I woke up the next morning and looked out my window. There were two doe and a big buck standing in my front yard. I jumped up and went down to the get my gun. I looked out again and they were gone. The stupid deer were just teasing me. I hate hunting.

  12. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Replica

The 1968 film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang captured many people hearts, but for 31-year old Gordon Grant (from Gerrards Cross, Bucks, UK), it was love at first sight. He first watched the movie when he was 2 and got hooked on having a car just like the one in the movie. When he was 16, he began the plan to make a replica of the car in this classic film, started building the car when he was 18 with his father, and finished when he was 28 years old. He somehow managed to get help from people who worked on the original. Some of these people were Peter Lamont, who was the assistant art director in the film, and Lionel Whitehead, the mechanic on Chitty. The engine Gordon Grant put on the Chitty replica was a Ford V6, which means that it can reach speeds of 140mph. Gordon says, "It is the only exact replica in existence and none of the original remains. About half way through the project my father got cancer so I have used it to raise money for cancer charities. It was the perfect remedy for my father who has beaten cancer five times. And the reason I am selling it is for my parents. They have done a lot for me and they have at least ten years of fun left in them and I'd love to see them go on cruise to New York on the Queen Mary or something. He goes on to say that he managed to build a career in the film industry because of Chitty. Gordon plans on selling the car at an auction on December 1st at the Mercedes Benz World in Weybridge, Surrey to raise money for his parent’s trip.

  13. It all started Thanksgiving morning of 2011 on the Property of James Hartwell and Marjorie Hartwell. My brother Dustin and I had found that the whole household was still sleeping and we were so anxious to eat that turkey dinner that was in the near future. Then all of the sudden we both had a wonderful idea, we had seen that our cousin landon was sleeping on an air mattress in the living room so we decided that we were going to pick up the mattress and move it through the sliding glass doors to the deck. My brother and I grew god awful grins and slowly opened the doors and picked up the mattress as slowly as we could we started out the door and Dustin lost his grip as our sleeping cousin hit the ground. We did not succeed in our plans but we just happened to wake up the whole house and we were able to get dinner cooking early.

  16. When I woke up on November 24th, it was a sunny Thursday morning and the house was filled with extraordinary smells due to the cooking of the Thanksgiving dinner. My mom and grandma were preparing the turkey and cooking all the other good foods and my brother and I helped my dad clean the house. The rest of my family had come over around one o’clock. After getting settled we were getting ready to eat dinner. I noticed that there had been no gravy on the table and I was surprised because gravy makes my Thanksgiving dinner. I asked my mom where the gravy was and she told me that it had totally slipped her mind. She then got right to making the gravy she had to rush because we were all so hungry and ready to eat the delicious dinner. My mom finally finished the gravy and I must say for the gravy being rushed in the making, it had to have been the best gravy I ever had. Our dinner was a success and I loved spending time with the family. Anything can happen during a Thanksgiving dinner, so be prepared!

  17. Comedy is a physical, emotion, and verbal kinds. The one that I will being talking about will be the physical way. The reason for this is because my four month old baby cousin had come down on Wednesday to spend the holiday with us. Don’t let me forget about my aunt and uncle to.

The baby’s name is Mastyic and she is so cute. She was beating up Katelynn. She was beating her up by kicking her and doing what babies do. So then I took her upstairs after she had fell asleep.

We woke up on Thursday morning and my aunt and uncle woke up first then my mom and dad had got up and they us kids help him get the turkey out and as I was doing this me and Katelynn had almost fell. Then my baby cousin started to cry and so I had to go get the baby and hand her to my mom.

On a beautiful Saturday morning we all had woke up so that we could get the baby ready to go home. So then after that we had to use my grandma Dee’s car in order to take them home because my uncle had to work on Monday and we had no idea if we would have the car to be able to take them home.

Thanksgiving was really fun I wish it had never came to an end because I don’t get to see them all that much and I can not rememberwhen the time I had seen them.

  19. The Tragedy That Turned Comical

The bight morning started out like any other Thanksgiving morning my dad in the kitchen cooking and my mom cleaning for company. My dad was in the kitchen cooking up a storm, he had the turkey prepped and ready to go into the oven when I walk down the stairs. This was just the beginning of what was supposed to be a fantastic day.

The day went on for what seemed like forever. It dragged on just because I was so eager for the delicious meal that was cooking just two rooms away. My dad went to check on the turkey when all of the sudden I heard a gasp that came from the kitchen. I ran out to see what the commotion was all about. Before I even reached the kitchen I saw it. The turkey that was supposed to be in the oven cooking for company that was supposed to be arriving in just an hour and a half.

We all rushed together to see what we could do about this dilemma. There wasn’t enough time to cook the turkey. Surly everything else that was cooking would be done before the turkey would. Then it hit us, why not just run to the store to buy a precooked turkey?

My dad grabbed his shoes, jacket, and keys and rushed off to the store. To his surprise all the turkeys were gone. What else were we going to do? He came back home put the turkey in the oven and turned up the temperature and prayed that the turkey would come out in time.

As family arrived the smell of turkey engulfed everyone. They loved the smell of our house; it was the smell that everyone had hopped for. The only thought that went through my head was it going to taste as good as it smelled?

An hour had passed and I was getting extremely hungry. I went to check the oven and saw that the temperature was turned up entirely too high. The oven was at five hundred degrees. I hurriedly opened the oven to see the turkey was burnt to a crisp.

I informed my family when all the sudden my little three year old cousin yelled “Yay Chinese for dinner!” So for Thanksgiving we had Chinese take out.

  20. Hunting Dog Takes Matters Into His Own Paws by Shooting Owner

On Sunday, November 27th, 2011 a 46-year-old hunting enthusiast was shot in the butt by his own dog while duck hunting in the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge. This man was from Brigham City, Utah. While out hunting in shallow marshes with a friend, he left his twelve-gauge shotgun resting on the bow of his canoe-like boat. As he stepped out to move some decoys he had placed, his dog stepped on the gun. The excited canine was jumping around in the boat and accidentally fired twenty-seven pellets of birdshot directly into his master's buttock.

It is unclear if a failure of the gun's safety caused this mishap. According to Box Elder County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Kevin Potter, the man was shot from ten feet away. Luckily, his waders protected him pretty well. Potter quoted: “The dog did something to make the gun discharge. I don't know if the safety device was on. It's not impossible that the dog could have taken it off safety.” Other details, such as the man's name or the type of dog involved, unfortunately, were not disclosed by Potter.

The hunter who was shot and the friend he was hunting with called 9-1-1 and walked to the main road to wait for the emergency squad. The wounded man was taken to Brigham City Community Hospital at about nine A.M. Doctors were able to remove all of the pellets very easily and the hunter is well on his way to recovery. However, the hunter maybe reconsidering the term “man's best friend”.

  21. Rachel G.- Your post was really interesting (and kind of sad). Wanting a Chitty Chitty Bang Bang replica is quite a unique dream. Also, I really respect that guy for giving up something he worked on for more than ten years! I'm sure his parents were beyond greatful that he was able to provide funds for them to go on a cruise. It's good to see that there are still people with hearts in the world.

  23. A thanksgiving tragedy!

It was the night before thanksgiving, when an evil turkey had been reported to the police for trying to murder families of Deposit. When the family was brought in to tell the outrageous story they were asked to tell the story, so the teen girl started and this is how it went.

“It was the day before thanksgiving and I was on my way home from school with my brother. I was in a fantastic mood. Everything seemed to be going great. I had been craving thanksgiving dinner for about a week and I could already smell the delicious turkey cooking, when all of a sudden we saw a turkey walking along the side of a road so my brother had the great idea of shooting it. So we stopped the car and my brother got his gone and just when he was about to shoot it, the turkey turned about with a vile expression on his face and said “ Gobble gobble you fools” and then it attacked. Hard and strong. We barely made it out alive when he saw a dog peeing on what looked to be his little house. The turkey was immediately enraged. It was a matter of seconds before the turkey charged at the poor dog. It didn’t take long for us to be in the car trying to escape from the vicious beast.”

“ All was good when we got home though (we both decided not to mention this to everyone considering they would think we were crazy). So I went to bed ready to wake up and eat a ton. When I awoke everything was normal my family and I went to my grandparents for thanksgiving, it was 2 o’clock and we were about to eat. My grandpa had just set the turkey on the table and we started to say grace when out of nowhere the evil turkey that my brother and I saw yesterday jumped out of the turkey and started to attack us. I could not believe what was happening. I had no clue what to do so I called the police and they arrested the evil turkey.”

Now that’s something you don’t see everyday or thanksgiving in this case

  25. What would you do(ooh ooh) for a blind elephant?

I don't know about you, but when I think of ways that people use their talents, elephants don't generally spring to mind. Maybe it's just me, but most famous pianists I've heard of, grace human ears with their melodies.  This, however, isn't true for Paul Barton, an accomplished British musician whom upon turning fifty, decided to travel to Thailand so he could play for some blind elephants. It apparently has been a  dream of his for a long time, but once this chimerical vision became a reality, the only question he had was "What do I play?". A valid question, yes, and after searching through some of his most favored pieces, he settled upon a slow- tempo Beethoven piece: "PathĂ©tique Sonata".
Once in Thailand, the issue of how to get the piano up the mountain remained. Barton was aware that he could get help in such a daunting task, but rather than that he encroached the problem with an alacrity which he felt necessary in order to have "undergone a personal challenge". A challenge, indeed! Maybe it's torpid, but that seems like a daunting task, especially considering it was for blind elephants, who probably wouldn't be all that gracious.
Barton has been helping the elephants for years, and he feels that the creatures enjoy hearing the music.  He even plans to hold a concert for as many elephants as possible in the future. It seems like this man really loves what he does, and who he does it for.

  26. Thankskilling the Tragic comedy

It was the night before thanksgiving and Gary, Marcos and I were going to my house for thanksgiving dinner. While in the kitchen trying to help cook the turkey when all of the sudden the turkey jumped up and ran out the window. The three of us chased into the woods about 300 yards in we got split up. I checked my watch it was about 10:30 at night and it was pitch black. Out of nowhere I hear a extremely girly scream it turns out it was Shawn he had been camping out in the woods.

When I got to the place where the scream came from I found him dead with stuffing around him and turkey tracks. I ran because I was scared, I found Gary and Marcos holding each other in the fetal position. I felt like being a weirdo so as expected I said “follow me if you wish to live”. We then got my house and we found that the lights were out and the front door was left open. Like idiots we walked right in. instantaneously Marcos was killed by the psycho turkey. I ran like a little girl into the kitchen and Gary ran upstairs. Not even ten seconds later Gary screamed and I knew he was dead. So I ran out of the house into the woods, I stayed there all night.

When I woke up in the morning I returned to the house all bloodied and bruised form the previous night. As soon as I got in the door everyone yelled surprise it turns out they were all playing a terrible practical joke except Shawn he died.

  27. Close Call on Black Friday

The day after Thanksgiving, Black Friday! Everyone has previously eaten a large and hearty meal. But they cannot relax and have a sound sleep. They must wake themselves in the middle of the night, get dressed, and of to the nearest shopping center they go. Why such a hurry? Everything is on sale! However Black Friday is not as joyous as it is for everyone else. How are stores going to handle the busiest shopping day of the year? They do it by demanding long hours for their employees.

These workers would like to spend time with their family but, they have to prepare the store on Thanksgiving Day. The long hours and strenuous work do a number on many of the employees. A middle aged, Floridian woman just got done with her long work hours. She was looking forward to go home and enjoy a nice sleep. However, all that work and stress made her very exhausted. On her way back home along a canal, she lost control of the car due to exhaustion.

She and her car went barreling into the river, fortune had it that she could not swim. Lucky for her she had her cell phone on her which she used to contact the police as her car started sinking. Quickly, deputy sheriff Frank Mayo arrived on the scene and dove into the canal to rescue the sinking woman.

Target defended itself by saying that opening that early was a choice supported by both the employees and the customers. However one employee, Anthony Hardwick, set up a petition asking for reasonable working hours.

  29. Comedy is a physical, emotion, and verbal kinds. The funniest thing that happened to me over the break was when someone splashed me with water when I was walking home from the store for my dad. The water was very cold. I was lucky that the newspaper did not get wet. When I go home everyone asked me what happened? So I told them and they all started laughing at me. The next day I got out of bed and fell down the stairs I was laughing so hard that I could barley talk. I got in the living room and everyone asked me if I was alright and I told them yes. We had to go to Binghamton that day and we were getting ready to leave and I had to babysit the little girl down the street I get her in the car and buckled up and then I went to get in and hit my head off the car door. Then I go to buckle up and the seat belt got caught in the door and locked at the same time. So I had to fight with the seat belt. Then when we got home I had to help my dad put away the groceries. Then on Sunday we went to the auction and we sat there for three in a half hours I was trying so hard not to fall asleep. When we got home from the auction I had to carry in all the stuff. It was so boring sitting at the auction with a bunch of old people. I did not have any luck over the break. It was horrible.

  30. Over break there is something that would have been very tragic. This insident would of had my dad hurt and my grampha sad because it involed my dad almost getting in a little acsident becuase of my stupidity of not leading him on to a hole where you can walk under the car to change the oil. This hole barley fit the car on so he had me lead him on to it and he almost put the car in to it because i had to let him back up and it made it even harder. If the car went down in there my grampha would have been so mad at my dad because of his car he has had forever would have been toltaaled. this would have been one tragic thing.

  31. Opening Day !

It was a foggy early morning on the nineteenth of November also the opening day of deer season a very fun time of the year. My family and I usually just see a doe and not many buck. So I was thinking the same thing I do every year I will go out and sit for three hours and not see a thing besides some squirrels.

This hunting season it was different, on the way up the hill on the four-wheeler we saw six doe this was exciting but they were not anything to shoot at. After that my dad and I were at the cabin loading our guns and telling each other were we were going to hunt so we knew where each other were and were to shoot and not were to shoot.

My and dad and I were just about to leave when I spotted a buck you could see the horn from 100 yards away. So I put my scope up to it and it was not a good shot so my dad looked at it through the scope to and agreed that it was not a good shot then seconds later the deer took off running and I thought that was it I wasn’t going to see anything else for the rest of the day. But I was wrong again no more than one minute later a buck walked up about 75 yard away and I looked and it was a good shot my dad saw it and I asked him do you want to take the shot and he said no so I took the shot and got him he dropped and that was it and I was only out in the woods for fifteen minutes.

  32. Kayleigh, I think that what that guy you wrote about has a passion for music and elephants, but on the other hand I think his passion for elephants is more of an obsession. to each his own I guess. I respect the way you write, it was defiantly an attention grabber.

  34. Kyley Vandermark,

Your blog is very good. I heard about that story on the news. Your blog sounds like it came right from a newspaper. You used journalism very well. There should be more gun safety. Even though it must have hurt really bad, it is kind of funny. Great job!!

  35. Matt,

That is a good story, and that must have been a great day for you. I know it wasn’t for me because all I saw was a couple of squirrels and some leaves fall. I hope that your deer tasted good too.

I liked your post I feel bad that you did not see anything when you went hunting and also that you couldn’t eat for another day just because of someone mistake. Very good post I enjoyed reading it.

  41. Matt mills, I did'nt like your post. It made me feel very unlucky. You just go out and get a deer right away. I have been spending so many hours out in the woods hunting. Without thinking about that you did a great job.

  42. Kyley,
Your post was very entertaining to read. I loved the way you wrote, it sounded just like a real journalist. I'm not sure that I would consider him "mans best friend" after that happened either.

  50. It was a dark stormy night in a little town called Deposit. Me, Brandon Jones, Dawson Daily, and Jon hafele was walking around town. Dawson had the smart idea to go to his house and grab something. So we start walking to his house and we hear this loud noise coming from the woods. So Brandon walks off in the woods. An hour has passed and no sign from Brandon. So Dawson runs home to grab some guns, and Jon and I keep looking well it’s been two hours and nothing from Dawson or Brandon. Then Jon and I get back to the road and there is a bloody brag mark on the road. So I start yelling for Dawson and nothing. So then jon and I walks to Dawson house, and his mom hasn’t hurd anything from him. so we call him, and he don’t pick up. We figured the drag marks on the road is him. We get back to the road and there is the body of Brandon just in the middle of the road. Then I remind jon of a story of this great beast killing a bunch of people on the road we were standing on. Then jon and I take to the nearest house and ask for help, but when we walked in the owner was swinging back and fourth from the celling. The owner had hung him self. We start looking for guns and we open a door and there is enough guns to fight off the U.S army. So we grab as much as we can carry to hunt for the beast. We went back to were the beast was, and we never saw it again.
