Aphorisms

"An apple a day, keeps the doctor away."
This quote means that you should eat healthy, and I try my best to eat and be healthy.

"Always leave your glasses where you can see them."
I wear glasses, and they're always where I can see them, since they're on my face.

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
I don't always agree with what other people believe or say, and I won't shove my beliefs down your throat, but I also think that people have the right to think and say what they want.

Aphorisms

"The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step" This quote means to me that in order to accomplish something tough or something that will take a while, you need to take the first step towards it to accomplish it.

This relates to my life by, I have many goals in life and I won't reach them if I don't take the first step towards accomplishing them.

"Life is short, make the most of it" This quote means to me that there is much time in life so do everything you can. This relates to me because I live life to the fullest that I can and make the most of my life.

"Life's a lottery- that's why you need balls"

This quote is very meaningful to me. It means to me that life is tough and you need courage and strength to get through it. This relates to my life because I have many tough things in my life and I use courage and strength to overcome them.

Aphorism

"You live only once, but if you do it right, once is enough."

To me this means if you live life to the fullest you will have no regrets.

"Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced."

To me this means if you don't face something and try , you wont know if if you could have changed it or not.

"If you don't control your mind, someone else will."

To me this means if you let others influence you and change you, you are not being yourself.

~If we can not laugh at ourselves, someone else will have to do it for us.

This aphorism means that we should lighten up and be able to laugh at ourselves. If we don't, others will. I can relate to this quote because being able to laugh at myself has never been something I was good at. I take a lot of things to seriously in my life. Lately, I have been trying very hard to change that.

~A job worth doing is worth doing well.

This aphorism means that if you are going to do something, you should do it to the best of your ability. A half done job is really just a waste of time. I completely agree with this quote. I think that if you're not going to put your all into the things you do, then you're wasting your time. Also, it is better to do one task really well than ten tasks averagely. I try to put as much effort into the things I do as I can. I think a good work ethic is vitally important.

~It's better to light a candle than to curse the darkness.

I think that this aphorism means that rather than complaining about the situations you are in, you should try to fix them. Whining about all the bad things that are happening to you isn't going to make anything any better. I see people do this a lot. I think that this is something many people, including myself, need to be more conscious of. If we spent half as much time trying to improve the situations we live in as we did complaining about them, I think we would all be surprised at the difference it could make.

Aphorisms (Don't be Afraid!)

Hi Everyone,
For this week's blog, you'll be locating three aphorisms (see below!) that you can relate to your life and your future.  This can be a pretty fun project and won't take a lot of time.  The requirements:

Locate three aphorisms and FOR EACH ONE:
   1. Explain the meaning of the aphorism
   2. Explain why it appeals to you and how it relates to your life
   3. Illustrate it by adding a photo, piece of clip art from the web, or something similar

**If you get stuck, please see Mr. T or me right away and we can help you.  The addition of an illustration is new this time and while it's not difficult, you may not be sure how to do it.  Here is the quick method:

On the compose blog page, look at the top for the box that looks like a picture and click "Insert Image"   For this one, I did a google search of Siddhartha in images; I went to the website and copied the URL to add the picture

You can also add from your phone if you have an android and the app.. I just generally use a website URL when I need to add pictures; if you want to try another method, I'll try to help.

IN ORDER TO INSERT PICTURES, YOU'LL NEED TO MAKE A NEW POST..... TITLE IT: APHORISMS .. See Mr. T. or me if you're confused.. don't just assume you're doing it right!

Good Luck!

Goal Setting

Dear Class,

This week's blog asks you to consider the past twenty-five weeks of school and set some goals for the next fifteen weeks.  Several of you have been concerned lately about your grades; a typical response when you know grades are due, but how about thinking about the grades more from now until the end of the year and setting some goals to keep you on track and focused on them.

I know that I'm a procrastinator; one of my goals for the last fifteen weeks of school is to get the blog topics posted before I leave school every other Friday and get the grades done no later than the Monday following your response to peers. (The actual blogs take much longer to grade, so I sometimes am slow getting those done.)

Another goal for the next fifteen weeks is to get my work space organized a bit more than it is now.  I spent from Christmas break until this week looking for a folder that contained order forms for wreaths so I could credit student accounts for them.  I tore my house and classroom apart looking for that folder and stumbled upon it just this week.  Anyone walking into my classroom knows that I have an organization style of my own; I just want to clean it up a bit so it's a little less chaotic.

My last goal for the next fifteen weeks is to use my time in school more productively.  I am not the best at staying on task and focused for long periods of time.  I'm distracted frequently and generally, happy to be distracted to chat with students or co-workers, take a walk down the hall, or just waste my time shuffling papers around on my desk.  I'm going to really work at taking less work home by using my time in school more productively.

Now for the hard part; how do I make all of this happen?  I think if I use an agenda or planner to outline the tasks I need to accomplish, I will be more productive and timely.  This is the first strategy I will use.  I'm going to vow to not go home at night until my desk is straightened out and my work for the next day is organized and ready to go.  Lastly, I'm going to make sure to build some time into my days to allow me to chat or do whatever it is that is such a time waster, so I don't feel pressured or that I'm not available for friends or students; talking is a big part of this job.  I'll be checking in to see how you're doing on your goals and will share my progress with you as we go along as well.

Please be sure to identify at least three goals, the reasons you've chosen them, and provide strategies you'll use to accomplish them.  I'm not setting a word limit this time; I'm looking for content not just a lot of words.  When you do your peer response next week, be sure you respond fully to a peer's post with either suggestions, empathy, or humor.  Let's hope the next fifteen weeks slide by quickly and productively for all of us!

I think the only person who controls your desteny is you yourself. if you want to do some thing then you can do it if you try hard enuf.
i feel like i control my desiny because its my future and the only person in control of my future is me.

I feel it is my destiny to become the president of the united states of america. Im the smartest kid in my class and ima a animal at spelling bees so i think im qualified. Iv got alot of freinds so i should get enuf votes and im funny so that might help if i bust a few jokes or sing a song.

Hi Gang!
I'm having some technical difficulties in posting the visual that goes with the blog this morning.  I will share the cartoon with Mr. Tombasco so you'll have the frame of reference that goes with the topic; there will also be copies of the cartoon available in my room all week.  Because of the short week and my lack of technological skills, I will give you until Monday the 27th to finish it up.  The topic is:

How do you view your destiny?  Calvin and Hobbes in the cartoon (that isn't posted here) are talking about their destiny and who is in control of that.  Do you believe the stars, your parents, your teachers, or you are in control of your future?   Think about some of the books you've read recently; who is in charge of Hero's future in Much Ado About Nothing or who was in charge of the boys' destiny in Lord of the Flies?  Now consider your own destiny and explain in 250-400 words.  (You may want to think about being more than halfway through the school year; who will determine whether you succeed or fail?)

Good luck with this one; feel free to add examples if you're having a hard time making the word count.
